You are warmly welcome to join us for any of our weekly activities. Here are a few details of our programs for adults, teenagers, and children:
Our Sunday worship service is a wonderful combination of inspiring traditional music and a passionate, relevant message. As of January 2010, our average worship attendance has grown to just over 100! We also have Sunday school classes for children, young people, and three adult classes. Our youth group--about a dozen young people in grades 7-12--meets Sunday afternoon for 2 hours.
The Rev. Nita Newman, our pastor, joined us in October 2009. Along with her 20-plus years of pastoral ministry experience, she brings a delightful sense of humor and a God-given vision for the future of Valley Mills UMC. Nita keeps office hours Monday through Thursday from 9:00 until noon at the church. She's also available for appointments later in the day.
We have two adult Bible studies that meet weekly. Both groups average around 6 - 10 people per week and as of January 2010, both are studying from the books of First and Second Kings. We are learning how these ancient books of Jewish history and theology have meaning for our lives today as followers of Jesus Christ.
Our teenagers and children also have weekly activities. Our youth choir, for grades 6 - 12, meets on Tuesdays right after school. The group of about 10 young people presents special music in the worship service on a regular basis. Their musical selections are scripturally-based, relevant, contemporary, and very well performed!
The Sonshine Club is a weekly after school program for children in grades pre-kindergarten through 5th grade that runs until 5:00. Children whose parents have registered them are picked up at Valley Mills Elementary when school is dismissed and taken to the church. Once there, children are given a snack and participate in singing, a Bible story, and a craft.
